Choosing to have a dog as part of your household/family is a life long commitment. It is a huge responsibility as a dog needs consistent care. Animals rely on you for everything such as, shelter, food, water, rules and most importantly, love.

Basic Care Of Your Dog

More than just “feed the dog daily”, having a pet of any sort is a responsibility. With this subject we’ll tackle the day-to-day care that a dog needs, as well as season specific needs.

1- Wash your dog at least once a month.

Dogs can be bathed by being sprayed with a garden hose or a hand-held shower head, or doused with water from a bucket. Often, one bath will not make a dog truly clean. A second bath is excellent to ensure the entire body has been cleaned. Dogs should be bathed with warm, not hot water, in order to make it a more enjoyable experience. Dogs with a heavy or matted coat should never be bathed without first being completely brushed out or clipped of any mats

2- Groom your dog daily.

Grooming is an important part of dog care. Depending on the breed, age, and health of the dog, grooming may be a daily activity. Many breeds require significantly less grooming than this, but regular grooming helps to ensure the dog is healthy and comfortable. It is important to note that while many dogs shed, others (such as the Poodle), do not shed (see Moult). Instead, their coat grows much like human hair and therefore requires trimming.

3- Ensure your dog has a well balanced diet and that is is getting enough food for his size and age.

Dog food is food intended for consumption by dogs or other canine. Some people make their own dog food, feed their dogs meals made from ingredients purchased in grocery or health-food stores or give their dogs a raw food diet. Many others rely on commercially manufactured dog food.

4- Make sure you take your pet to the vet regularly

As you may not realise there is anything wrong with him/her due to there survival instinct. Therefore only a vet would be able to determine that there is a problem.

5- And make sure your dog has a collar on him/her with his/her name, address and telephone number in the event of him/her getting lost.

Choke Collar: The choke collar is a length of metal-link chain with a large circular ring on either end. The chain is slid through one of these rings and it is slid over the dog’s head. When the dog displays an undesirable behavior the collar is tightened. This is primarily used in traditional dog training.
